FCPS Career Signing Day Celebrates Students Hired Following Successful Apprenticeships
Frederick, MD – Seventeen Frederick County Public Schools students who completed successful apprenticeships and secured employment with local businesses were celebrated at the fifth annual FCPS Career Signing Day, sponsored by the Frederick County Career and Technical Advisory Council. These students not only gained valuable on-the-job experience but were also hired by the very companies that mentored them—many through the FCPS Youth Apprenticeship Program, a unique opportunity that connects students with paid, real-world work experiences while still in high school. The program allows students to earn academic credit, develop industry-relevant skills, and step confidently into the workforce upon graduation.
“I am so excited to see these students prepared and focused on a career immediately after graduating from high school,” FCPS Superintendent Dr. Cheryl L. Dyson said. “I am also so appreciative of our business partners who provide valuable apprenticeship and internship opportunities that give our high school students an invaluable opportunity to learn, develop, and grow.”
The majority of students who participated in Signing Day attended the FCPS Career & Technology Center, where they received quality hands-on instruction in high-demand fields. FCPS students in Grades 9, 10, and 11 who are in good standing at their high schools may apply to a program at the Career & Technology Center through a competitive application process held annually.
