Walkersville High School is full of students from all kinds of backgrounds; everyone has different traditions and favorite foods when it comes to Thanksgiving. To find out what dishes stand out the most, we asked students about their favorite foods to eat on Thanksgiving. After all the responses, three dishes stood out as the most popular.
In first place is baked mac and cheese. This dish is creamy, extra cheesy, and topped with crispy bread crumbs that adds the perfect crunch. “Mac and cheese is always the first thing I grab,” one student said. “The way it’s baked makes it even better. It’s so cheesy, and the crunchy topping is perfect!” Mac and cheese recipes are often passed down from generation to generation keeping the rich flavors flowing over time.
Coming in second place is stuffing. Whether it’s cornbread stuffing or the classic kind with herbs and seasonings, stuffing is a must-have on many Thanksgiving tables. It’s one of those foods that just screams Thanksgiving. “Stuffing makes everything on your plate taste better,” one student shared. “It’s like the flavor of Thanksgiving all in one bite!” The Thanksgiving table is not complete if stuffing is absent.
In third place are candied yams, also known as sweet potatoes. This delicious side dish is topped with marshmallows that melt and turn golden in the oven. They’re sweet, buttery, and a little like having dessert with your dinner. “The marshmallows make it so good,” one student said. “My family makes candied yams every year, and they’re always the first thing gone.” Make sure this Thanksgiving you have this sweet treat on your plate.
While these three dishes came out on top, everyone has their own Thanksgiving favorites. From turkey to cranberry sauce to pies. It’s clear that Thanksgiving is about more than just the food. It’s about sharing good meals and traditions with the people you care about. Spending time with family members that you might not always see, makes this holiday extra special (even if you have a family debate over the best thanksgiving food). WHS is not responsible for arguments and disagreements over Thanksgiving favorites…
