Since the beginning of April, and possibly March, the students along with the teachers of WHS had been anxiously waiting for Spring Break to arrive. On their minds were their upcoming travel plans, their family’s holiday celebrations, and simply a week to relax without having to do school work. This year, Spring Break was between April 14th to 18th, with Easter Monday adding on an extra day. We interviewed Walkersville’s students to find out exactly what everyone was looking forward to!

Easter is known for the egg hunts and colorful baskets filled with chocolate eggs and bunnies. If you’re religious, you also know the holiday is to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. When students came back to school, they told us how they spent their Easter. Like many others, Jaxon, a freshman, spent the day with his family: “Yeah, I went to my family’s house and we watched the baseball game together.” Lots of students went to church, including Gustavo and Dru, who went with their families. Dru says that her and her family dyed and painted Easter eggs for the occasion as well!

Many WHS students traveled to incredible locations. One student went on a Bahamian cruise. They fed sharks and visited different shops and beaches. “My friend and I were holding a sign in the elevator that said ‘stop us for a joke,’ so we spent a while doing that,” Sounds like they had a blast!
Norah, a freshman, visited the Grand Canyon with her family over break. Norah described how seeing the Canyon made her feel small in comparison, although it was very beautiful. Overall, she enjoyed her vacation, saying, “The Grand Canyon was a really fun and inspiring trip.”

Those close to home enjoyed the warm weather, with Frederick finally reaching 70 degrees! Many went outside, like Meg who spent lots of days of break outside with her family, shopping and going out to eat. Jordan, a sophomore, stayed close with his family to celebrate his grandma’s birthday: “Yeah, we went to my grandparents house to celebrate, and it was nice to have it over break.” Jordan mentioned how he appreciated the long break, since it gave him more time to prepare something nice for the birthday. Another student, Skyler, said he spent break practicing for track, and spent lots of time with his family going hiking and playing games.
Spring is a beautiful season, with the flowers blossoming, the grass growing, and the sun shining. Of course, along with spring comes pollen, allergies, and bugs, but its a worthwhile tradeoff. The WHS community enjoyed a Spring Break filled with warm weather, family, friends, time at home, and time away. These Lion Time’s writers look forward to next year’s spring break. We can’t wait to see what WHS gets up to. The moments spent with family and friends created lasting memories that everyone will cherish. Spending time with family and friends and celebrating cherished beliefs are truly the most important. Let’s embrace the warmth and beauty of the season and look forward to the new experiences that await us!
