Every year, high schools all over America have prom. Exclusive to juniors and seniors, prom is one of the last big get togethers for upperclassmen before graduation. Walkersville upperclassmen especially enjoyed their prom this year. Some wowed with gorgeous hair and dresses, while others looked sharp in crisp suits. Nails, hair, shoes, clothes, professional photos were all the rage with the students as they prepared for prom.
The theme for this year’s prom was ‘A Night in Paris,’ and the students definitely understood the assignment. Their outfits showed off the amazing and extravagant fashions associated with Paris, and everyone looked positively amazing. Whether it was in pairs, groups, or alone, they showcased Parisian chic.

Senior Jennifer Diaz had lots of good things to share about her prom experience: “The venue was really pretty. I went to KPOT with my friends, took pics, went to Dave and Busters, and then to the venue. I went with two of my friends from my old school and my cousin also. I had a lot of fun cause I saw a bunch of people I hadn’t seen in so long.”
Another set of our graduating seniors, Eden Tshibuabua and Drew Stepherson, went to prom together. While Drew has gone three times, this was Eden’s first and last prom. Drew had a lot to say since this prom was the last of three. It was a very sentimental moment for him.
“I’ve gone three times,” says Drew, “..and this final and third time was by far my most memorable. I sat and talked at first, but eventually fell into the crowd and started dancing and truly enjoying myself, and then I hyped my friends up and helped them get out of their shells as well. I got my outfit together by coordinating with my girlfriend, and getting a vest and tie that matched her dress. I wanted to make sure she only saw the tie, and wanted to take off my suit and reveal the vest once I started dancing. This being my last prom is awesome, I’m so glad I got to end the year on this note.”
Eden was also a bit sentimental but more so excited. “I’m glad I got to experience it, we took some pics in the park and then I also had fun at the dance. There were snacks, good music and it was nice to see everyone have a good time. Honestly it’s bitter sweet, I chose to not go to prom as a junior cause I felt that senior prom was gonna be more sentimental and it truly was.” It was clear that she was very satisfied with her decision to wait until this year to go to prom.

Angelina Holzberger, a junior had lots to input, from how beautiful the venue was to her self-rhinestoned shoes. “It was nice not having the whole school in one place like homecoming. I didn’t have a dat, but I did go with my friends, and we all were just jumping and playing around, taking pictures and laughing. The outfit was probably the hardest part cause I rhinestoned my own shoes, and it almost made me late for pictures, but it all worked out. The venue was gorgeous and the pavilion outside was absolutely beautiful.” She also mentioned how tired she was after which honestly seems realistic after all that excitement in one night.

Tianna Manguiri also had an eventful evening before prom. She mentioned how glad she was that there was an early dismissal because she was so excited for the day to be over: “I went to my mom‘s salon and I got my hair done then I drove back to my house. My girlfriend, my cousin, and my friend came over, and we all got ready together. Then we met up with Alanah and her boyfriend at the fire hall, took pictures then got to the school around like six almost 7, then got on the bus.” Tianna says that she had an amazing time at prom and had so much fun.
Dylan Broker also recounted his experience at prom, saying it was “overall a good experience”. He talks about all the fun he had and how he got to take photos at Walkersville Park with his friends, and go out to dinner at Silver Diner after. “The shuttle buses were actually really nice too; mine sung a song on the way back from Prom. As for the event itself, the music wasn’t too bad, and Dr. Bell’s ad libbing made the whole thing a lot of fun either way.” He also mentions the outfits he saw, stating that everyone (especially his girlfriend Guadalupe) looked amazing and how happy he was that everyone went all in with them.
The juniors becoming seniors, and the sophomores becoming juniors alike are all excited for next year’s prom. As for the seniors who went to prom this year, the consensus was that everyone enjoyed their final and most sentimental prom.
