- WHAT HAPPENED?
The 14-3 Philadelphia Eagles faced off against the 15-2 Kansas City Chiefs for Super Bowl LIX. The Philadelphia Eagles, a team that dominated the entire 2024 season, put on a near-perfect performance in the first half of Super Bowl LIX, carried it through the third quarter, and blew the doors off the Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22. Philadelphia held a 34–0 lead until the Chiefs finally got on the board with 34 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The Chiefs’ next drive took them five plays and 17 yards to their own 47-yard line. Facing a fourth down, a pass from Mahomes to DeAndre Hopkins fell incomplete after it was batted away by Maddox, resulting in a turnover on downs. On the next play, Hurts threw a 46-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith, increasing the Eagles’ score to 34, the Chiefs responded with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Mahomes to Worthy at the end of the third quarter, but failed a two-point conversion attempt from tight end Travis Kelce.
- SUPER BOWL 59 PREDICTIONS (according to New York Times)
“This time, 63 percent of our 41 voters believe the Chiefs will win their third consecutive title and beat the Philadelphia Eagles at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.”
Chiefs/Eagles
Chiefs = 26 votes. Eagles =15 votes.
- WHAT PEOPLE HAD TO SAY ABOUT JALEN HURTS AND PATRICK MAHOMES?
“The Chiefs have been running a marathon all season, a quest to be the NFL’s first three-peat champion in the Super Bowl era,” The Athletic’s Nate Taylor, who covers the Chiefs, says. “Mahomes has more than enough postseason experience and could be at the peak of his athletic powers to guide the Chiefs to another Super Bowl victory.”
“They haven’t turned the ball over yet in the playoffs with Jalen Hurts embracing a more conservative role in the pocket, and they leverage this security against a top-ranked defense that’s forced 10 turnovers in three playoff games. If they play to their strengths, they’ll be up two scores with less than two minutes to go. And that’s the only time they know Patrick Mahomes can’t kill them.” says Brooks Kubena, who covers the Eagles for The Athletic.
“The Eagles have the best team. But the Chiefs have the best player, and that player can compensate for anything an opponent has that his team does not. If the game is close, and it assuredly will be, would you bet against Patrick Mahomes on a final drive? I would not.” — Dan Pompei, NFL senior writer.
- IS MAHOMES STILL THE “GOAT”, even after the loss?

Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes turned the ball over three times, including a 38-yard pick-six by Cooper DeJean, who became only the second rookie in Super Bowl history to return an interception for a touchdown.
Some say Brady is the GOAT because he was always able to come from behind when it mattered most. Since 2019, Mahomes is now 5-2 when trailing by 10-plus points at any point in the playoffs. The rest of the NFL is 6-48 in that span.
Not even Tom Brady, a guy with SEVEN rings has won three Super Bowls in a row, in his whole career, Meanwhile Patrick Mahomes has three rings, in only eight years of being in the NFL, (he has participated in five, and lost two, Buccaneers in 2021, 31-9 and the Eagles in 2025, 40-22), this comparison can no longer be backed up, obviously, since he has lost AGAIN (even when he was favored to win both times) , falling very short.
- COULD THE EAGLES HAVE WON THE SUPER BOWL WITHOUT SAQUON BARKLEY?
“The Eagles are built to beat the Chiefs. They seize control of games with Saquon Barkley and a run-oriented offense that helped lead the NFL in time of possession margin,” says Brooks Kubena, who covers the Eagles for The Athletic.
Saquon Barkley, arguably one of the best running backs in the league is ONE of the reasons why Philadelphia won the Super Bowl, here is why the Philadelphia Eagles believe so. In 2024, Saquon Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards (the most he has ever had in his whole career), 13 touchdowns and 345 CAR (rushing attempts). I personally think the Eagles would have gotten this far without Saquon Barkley. Saquon is a great help yes, but the Eagles have their QB Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, Jahan Dotson, and Dallas Gobert. So with the Eagles having Saquon Barkley, is the perfect match, but…
- CHIEFS DEFENSE?
The Chiefs defense and offense, but mostly defense gave up 7 pts in the first quarter, 17 pts in the second quarter, 10 pts in the third quarter and 6 in the fourth. The Chiefs did not score until the third quarter, when they scored 6 pts, along with 16 in the fourth quarter, but it was way too late. The streets of Philadelphia were already celebrating, lifting stop light poles and praising Saquan Barkley, along with Jalen Hurts, happy to have won a superbowl, since their last win was in 2018 with Nick Foles, a 41-33 win against Tom Brady.
Philadelphia outperformed Kansas City on both sides of the ball. Jalen Hurts, who was ultimately named Super Bowl MVP, completed 17 of 22 attempts for 221 yards, threw an interception, and scored three touchdowns: two passing, one rushing. (None to Saquon Barkley, which is shocking) He also rushed for 72 yards, setting a new record for quarterback rushing yards in the Super Bowl; Hurts had set the prior record of 70 yards in Super Bowl LVII.
I personally believe, (as a Chiefs fan) the Chiefs were way too worried about Saquon Barkley, that they forgot the Eagles had 10 more players on their offense, that are also capable of scoring, including Jalen Hurts, who ran the ball almost half way down field TWICE, ruining the Chiefs’ defense for all their worth. (especially on their defense that night, which performed terribly, for the most part)
How did they celebrate?
